Wish this blog had smelly vision. These Narcissus were on our walk this morning and had the most delicious scent. Spring in Winter. We made the most of a dry morning having dropped an elderly relative off into town for an appointment. We headed west for the little town of St Aubin. Much more charismatic than St Helier with hilly cobbled streets and ancient houses. These would have been owned by sea captains and ship builders in the days when Jersey was a force to be reckoned with on the trading seas. Off they went across to Newfoundland and The Gaspe coast to capture and dry cod for the home market. They returned to Jersey wealthy enough to build substantial homes. Walking through St Aubin's High Street those houses can still be seen.
Above the town we made a circuit of country lanes with far reaching views of the bay. Out on the beach a solitary rider on their horse. The sky suitably pewter like, threatening with rain to come.
The lanes still carried the sheen of last night's rain. The sun losing the battle to dry them completely. Oak trees above us still hung onto some ochre leaves and birdsong was prolific. I particularly enjoyed passing an ancient farmstead with its rickety corrugated metal roof.
We returned home just before the next deluge. My advent square was the perfect antidote to he leaden skies. Limoncello. Almost liquid sunshine.
Now I'm in list mode. Tomorrow I will head into town for the last of the gift shopping hopefully. Fingers crossed.
How has your Monday been?
